Corrado Ambrogio

Corrado Ambrogio was born on 3 May 1957 in Mondovì, where he still lives today. He attended scientific high school and then studied at Turin Polytechnic, which he left with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a specialisation in metallurgy and steelmaking. In 1987, he joined the Environmental Impact Assessment Department at the Ministry of the Environment in Rome. He currently holds the chair in Technology and Design at the Cigna High School in Mondovì.

Ambrogio started working as a painter in 1974. In 1988, the Region of Piedmont organised a personal show of his work in the regional government building, in the framework of the “Proposals” event, whose aim was to select emerging values. Originally featuring an objective inspiration, over the years his works gradually acquired greater independence from reality in terms of its more recognisable aspects, “to establish a new relationship with truth, as it were endorsed by a mindset that goes well beyond sentimentality, almost to the point of calling forth the most vivid of evocations in what may be the most secret and essential of aspects” (Angelo Dragone).

In 1989, the artist’s urge to experiment with new rules and new materials induced him to alternate between painting and sculpture. He has designed and made furnishings and décor elements. He has illustrated books, including Desiderio che avanza nelle mappe della materia by Adonis, Edizioni San Marco dei Giustiniani, Genoa 1997. His group shows include Artists of the Alpes Maritimes, Lyon, 1982; Italian Artists Today, Italian Art Museum, Lima (travelling exhibition), 1989; X National Drawing Biennale, Torre Pellice, 1990; Contemporary Art Biennale, Turin, 1990; Piedmontese Artists, Palazzo Ruini, Reggio Emilia, 1991; Abitare il tempo, Verona, 1992; Mondial Art Salon, Avignon, 1993; Festival des Arts, Beaulieu sur Mer, 1993; Eight Protagonists of Contemporary Art in Piedmont, Cortona, 1995; Pilgrims Cherubs, Contemporary Art in the Parishes around Lake Garda, Desenzano, 1996; Sculpture & Sculptures, Vittoriano Hospital, Carignano, 1997; Nine Piedmontese sculptors, Peano Foundation, Cuneo, 2000; Competition for Monumental Sculpture, Rozzano, 2004.
