Pietro Coletta

Pietro Coletta was born in Bari in 1948. He moved to Milan in 1967 and attended the Accademia di Brera, where he studied under Marino Marini, Alik Cavaliere and Lorenzo Pepe. Since the 1970s, he has been a leading name in sculptural research, with works that initially brought into question the meaning of the materials used, by means of a skilful play of optical and spatial illusion.
He has taken part in many of the most important exhibition events in Italy and abroad, from the 1975 Quadriennale in Rome to the Venice Biennale in 1982, as well as being included in many events devoted to sculpture and spatial works, such as “Pittura ambiente” at Palazzo Reale in Milan, in 1979, and in important reviews of Italian art at the Lenbachhaus in Munich, at the Hayward Gallery in London, as well as in Sydney, Ottawa and elsewhere.
In 1987, the Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan put on a solo exhibition of his works. The artist has lived and worked in Milan since 1967.
