Carlo Maria Maggia was born in 1964 in Switzerland and now lives in Turin. Since the age of eight, he has been practising the oil panting taught to him by his grandmother, a painter.
From the age of 14 to 26, he raced motorbikes and in rallies, making a name for himself at national level. He then designed components for car racing and established several companies operating in the area.
He designs gardens, writes books and articles and has conducted research in the area of vegetation and of the environmentally friendly use of resources, winning two competitions for green architecture in Milan.
At the age of 30, he established “L’Officina dei Giardini”, a company with a reputation for designing outdoor decoration systems inspired by eighteenth-century structures, whose activity focuses on raising awareness about Italy’s historical heritage.
Maggia is a great traveller, with a particular interest in botanical explorations in the worlds’ remaining uncontaminated places.
He contributes to Gardenia magazine and also to Giardini d’Inverno, which is published by Umberto Allemandi. He contributed to the book Jardin des Alpes, published by Leonardo Mondadori International.
Moving to western Liguria to pursue his artistic career, he created an experimental garden there, planting it with more than 10,000 trees and shrubs.
Over the years, he has worked on environmental designs and projects, planting more than a million different species of plants.
A creator of sculptures and artistic environmental designs, he also patents innovative and social works.
