The castle ghost
PRINCESS VITTORIA OF SAVOIA SOISSONS

Vittoria of Savoia-Soissons, bust in wax – Music Room

As is the case in every self-respecting Castle, Aglič also has its own ghost: that of the princess Vittoria di Savoia Soisson, born in Turin in 1683, the wife of Prince Federico, Duke of Hildburgausen, who died in Turin in 1763.

The princess, who did not have any children, left her inheritance to the Duke of Chiablese: for this reason there is a wax bust of the noble lady in the Castle, a portrait painted with crude realism by Pietro Orso, who completed it with applications of fabric, tulle, pearls and lace.

The legend of the ghost is actually quite recent and was created by Umberto Chierici, the Superintendent architect in charge of the restoration of the Castle between the 1950’s and 1960’s, staying there for a lengthy period: the flabby ugliness of the old princess was the reason that gave rise to the current myth.
